With our current Chairman, Gp Capt Eugene Moriarty, retiring from the service in February 2020 the reigns to the RAFGSA have been handed to Gp Capt Carl Peters. Carl has been a member of the RAFGSA for many years and is active pilot at Bannerdown Gliding Club and will be looking to represent the RAF at the Inter Services Competition in August. Gp Capt Moriarty has had a fantastic tenure as Chairman over the last two years and has been instrumental in revitalising the Association. We wish him all the best for his future career away from the Service.

It’s not often that a ‘junk’ email turns about to be trustworthy, but in the case of the recent RAF Gliding and Soaring Association visit to Brazil the offer received certainly wasn’t too good to be true! The chance email that was mistakenly filtered as spam was an invite to attend the 30th International Gliding Competition at the Brazilian Air Force Academy near Sau Paulo. Numerous quick-fire emails were sent to graciously accept the offer and confirm with the Defence Attaché in Brazil that RAF attendance would be approved. Sqn Ldr Jon Arnold and Flt Lt Luke Dale were selected by the RAFGSA committee to compete. Both Read More

23rd July – 5th August saw a select team from the Chilean Air Force (FACh) return to the UK. The invitation from the Chief of the Air Staff to the Chilean Air Force is an integral part of a long standing reciprocal arrangement between the RAF and FACh, which cements the UK/Chilean relationship at senior levels against the backdrop of wider defence diplomacy objectives. Their visit this year also coincided with the Interservices Regional Gliding Competition at Keevil airfield. This allowed our visitors to experience the challenging UK cross country conditions and endure the unpredictability of the British climate! Read More
